When words no longer exist...

Today I don't feel like celebrating the absurd.

It's absurd that I can read all day, listen to music, watch a movie, putter around my house...when the IDF is bombing apartment buildings at night in Lebanon.

What can I say to Ahmad that someone hasn't already said, that I haven't already said?

I sit in safety, powerless to do anything because the decision to allow Isreal its "little war" were made without consultation with the people...the 'demo' of our so-called democracy.

Ahmad, my thoughts are with you and your people tonight...

Hey Ahmad:

This is Jean-Michel. My heart goes out to all the Lebanese people and to my Lebanese-American relatives. There is a lot of outrage (finally) in the U.S.A. on the latest BARBARIC attack by Israel on the town of Qana. There are many of us Americans who support Lebanon and we are making noise and we will not stop until Israel is out of Lebanon and pays for the WAR CRIMES it has committed. Many Jews in the U.S.A. are speaking out (many of them Halocaust survivers and children of Halocaust survivors) against the actions of Israel. I and the American people (at least over half) apologize for the Idiots we have as a King (George W(rong) Bush, and the Unqualified Sectary of State Condoleeza Rice (who is King George's private mistress). We stand together with Lebanon for peace and we will do everything possible to DEFEAT THE (Fascist) Repugnikkkans out of our Congress this November 2006. Again, we are deeply sadden and sorry for all the suffering the U.S.A. government has caused in the Middle East. We are your brothers and sisters and we embrace you with our arms and spirit.

Peace! Jean-Michel (Los Angeles, CA)

Ahmad, I like how now I've got people leaving messages for you here, since it's getting crowded at Cold Desert...

Jean-Michel -- I feel for you folks south of the border. Our so-called leader, Stephen ("It's OK Mr. Bush, you can call me Steve.") Harper is a Bush-wannabe...so I'm personally hoping he's nailing his own political coffin shut with his appalling attitude towards Israel's undeclared war.

What makes me sick is the extreme bias in the U.S. news reports. Living in Canada, at least I can watch a more balanced coverage on CBC, and they air BBC as well. But the American networks call one side "soldiers" and "freedom fighters" and the other side "terrorists" and "extremists". Just as they do with their Iraq invasion and occupation -- sorry, "war" -- they manipulate the opinions of their viewers just as surely as Kim Jong-il makes sure that his citizens know nothing of the world outside North Korea.

I'm still shaking my head over this: "What we're seeing here, in a sense, is the growing -- the birth pangs of a new Middle East." - Condoleeza Rice, press briefing, July 21, 2006.

I'm reading A Peace to End all Peace by David Fromkin. It's essentially about the few years during/after WWI where the European nations carved out the Middle East borders as they stand today....THAT was the "new middle east".

Great discussion on BookTalk.org at this forum.

@Jean-Michel:
I am so glad to read that. Thank you so much for your support.

@PJ:
The main problem is biased media and I am afraid the media makes the attitude of the common man.
