Overheard

Metro and I, walking past the school near our house on this lovely sunny Sunday, passed a gaggle of 13-year-olds, including two couples holding hands (oh! the first hand-holding!! Remember it?). One girl expounded: "Tyler, there comes a time in every teenager's life...."

Damn! Missed it! I so wanted to hear the Words of Wisdom.

But haven't we all been there? Expounding on our age, our era. I'm guilty of it.

How to identify a 20-something:
  • prone to asking "how old do you think I am?"
  • believe s/he invented sex

How to identify a 30-something:
  • prone to making pronouncements about 20-somethings

Ah, well. I'll be 40 soon enough!

Lori

Ah you old people all sound like that.

Us kids just wanna start some action, so lead, follow, or get out of the way!

I'd like a pint of shandy and me mam wants me home by nine.

I read recently that studies are showing that older people are happier than those aged 21-40. ( http://tinyurl.com/jjwgy ) "...people's happiness results more from their underlying emotional resources -- resources that appear to grow with age."

PJ, is that what those in their 40s expound on??

:P

But I would agree...most of the 40-somethings, 50-somethings, even 60-somethings I've talked to think that their decade is the best..."it just keeps getting better!"

Cool.

I think I was happier when I was in my teenage. I think life just gets tougher with age because responsibilities increase.

Maybe later on, things will take a reverse effect and become easier. Interesting point to think about.

There is a saying here, "The first 80 years are the most difficult." :P

Hi Lori... Greetings from United Kingdom.

Ahmad -- I agree with you about the responsibilities...but once you get more 'practiced' with those responsibilities, you get more time/energy to relax and enjoy your life.

Or, you exchange one set of responsibilities for another! Someone once said that "We are our commitments." (Scary thought.)

Andy -- welcome! And just what position did you want to take credit for? :P

Just think

When you're 60, you'll wish that you were 40

I don't think so, anonymouse. Age is all in the way you look at it -- you can either hang around and wait for death, or live your life. My Mom is referred to by my sister's in-laws as the 'young grandma', but she's the same age, if not older. They moan and complain about how old they are, while Mom doesn't think about her age from one day to the next.

I actually had a student once, a Korean guy, who really pissed me off. He was 30, and was moaning to me one day about how old he was, and how he the best years of his life were over. I was 35 at the time, and I was just floored. I tried to verbally shake him out of it at the time, but I think I was too angry (at the waste!) to do any good.
