Appalling Absurdity of the Week

In the news...

A Spanish driver who collided with a cyclist is suing the dead youth's family $29,300 for the damage the impact of his body did to his luxury car, a Spanish newspaper reported on Friday.

Businessman Tomas Delgado says 17-year-old Enaitz Iriondo caused $20,500 of damage to his Audi A8 in the fatal 2004 crash in La Rioja region, the El Pais newspaper reported.

The mind boggles.

I can't even think of anything scathing enough for this guy. Can anyone help?

First opinion is that the fuckwit isn't going to get anywhere with this claim. Why wasn't he charged for manslaugher?

Or even reckless driving?

Ain't life grand?

I think the teen was in the wrong, traffic-rule wise, and unfortunately got killed in the process...I don't know about you, but if I'd hit and killed someone who dashed out in front of me, I'd be in counseling to deal with the trauma, not in court, suing the family for damages...

ARGH!!

Actually, since the guy who hit him was doing between 113 and 173 km/h in a 90 zone at the time, I think he could be reasonably described as being in the wrong himself.

He's since dropped the suit, whining about the negative publicity being "a lynching."

I am reasonably sure a number of Spaniards would be happy to demonstrate to him the difference between the two.

I declare it a tie. If you're being assoholic and you commit property damage in the process, shouldn't you be liable? So, let him sue the estate, not the parents, for the damage to the car, while the estate of the boy sue for the cost of the bike. It's not wrongful death, nor manslaughter legally.
