There's actually hope for Garfield

Found this forum thread out there in the ether today, that makes a superb point. The utter stupidity of the Garfield comic strip really gains something when it loses the cat's thought bubbles.

Now it's a rather poignant strip about a lonely, awkward man and his cat.

I read a very funny blog that analyzes Marmaduke, and the author very rightly says that Marmaduke is only funny if you remove the text and replace it with, "There goes that F$&#!ing dog again."

One of my old boyfriends always read Far Side cartoons by covering up the any text at the bottom of the box. More often than not, it was funnier without explanation.

Guess you have to be a cat lover to appreciate Garfield. Maybe not even then.

Oh, Garfield was funny for the first couple of months, when I was a kid...now it's just pathetic. The point of this post was that it's a slightly more palatable strip if the cat shuts up.
