I'm a catalyst for the unexpected.
Yesterday, a very close friend I haven't spoken to in maybe 4 years contacts me (finally!), and it's like no time has passed at all. I'm sure we could still drink beer until the wee hours of the morning, dancing or playing euchre.
Today, a very close friend I haven't spoken to in maybe 2 months contacts me, and in no uncertain terms, breaks off the friendship because I've been uncommunicative. (Uh, hello? I've been busy?)
So no more drinking beer until the wee hours of the morning with that one.
The absurd is not always amusing.
Anyway, call that person you've been meaning to call. Today. Just in case.
For me.

Two months? I have friends I haven't talked to in two years and we're still friends. I think. Well, maybe not. Maybe that's why we haven't talked in two years.
Friendships shouldn't have timers. Such people are not spiritually generous. It's possible that the person will come to regret that decision.
@mad
you'd probably find that you are still friends -- you might need to spend a little extra time drinking beer together, but what's the problem there?!?
@raincoaster
she may, she may. I'm giving her a ocuple of months, then sending a long, chatty letter. Either she'll be utterly annoyed with my presumption and ignore me, or she'll call me up and we can fight it out (you know, one of those love/hate fights). We'll see.
Anyone who writes you off in such a childish manner is probably someone you're better off without.
Two days ago a friend contacted me on IM - hadn't heard a peep from her in about two years. And yeah, it was great, like we'd just chatted yesterday except we had a lot more news to catch up on.
Years ago I practically lived on the phone and would also spend hours and hours writing long newsy snailmail and email letters to people.
Nowadays I hate talking on the phone and prefer referring people to my blog if they want to know what I've been up to.
I don't care any less about my friends, it's just that other things (including being in a relationship) have changed the way I organise my time. If a *friend* can't understand that, then maybe they weren't really a friend after all.
